No. 3 Baseball Wins 40th Game for Third Straight Season; Sets New Conference Win Record

Laurinburg, N.C.- The third-ranked Bulldogs played their final game of the regular season on Friday. The baseball team played the regular season finale against the St. Andrew University Knights.  

TWU took control of the game early, leading 9-0 after the fourth inning. The first run of the game came for the Bulldogs in the first inning as Carson Ford scored on Andre Tarver's RBI single.  

Five runs came in the second inning. Evan Magill and Parker Stinnett scored on Dan Sayre's single while Braxton Turner scored on Marco Martinez's single. Tarver moved the lead to four runs when his single brought Sayre to home plate and a sacrifice fly by Cayle Webster scored Martinez to give the team a 6-0 lead through two innings. 

Sayre scored for a second time in the fourth inning off a Webster single and Cody McGill made the score 9-0 when his single to right field brought Martinez and Webster across home plate. St. Andrews scored a run in the sixth inning. 

In the seventh inning, Tennessee Wesleyan moved into double digits. Jacob Tolson was responsible for giving the team ten runs as Cade Bochlter scored on Tolson's sacrifice fly, giving the team a 10-1 lead after the top of the seventh inning. St. Andrews scored six runs over the remaining innings, but the Bulldogs held on for a 10-7 win.  

Sayre, Tarver, Webster, and McGill all had two RBIs in the game. Blake Peyton finished with 10 strikeouts in the win on the mound. 

The win represented the 29th conference win for the Bulldogs, setting a new record for conference wins in a season, surpassing the record 27 the team set last season. As winners of the regular season title, TWU will enter the AAC Tournament as the No. 1 seed with a 40-7 overall record. The team will play the winner of the play-in game between the eight and the nine seed on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m., at Hunter Wright Stadium in Kingsport, Tenn.
