No. 6 Baseball Wins Series Against Montreat
ATHENS, Tenn.- Unlike the day before, the runs in the final game of the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) game between the No. 6 Bulldogs and the Montreat College Cavaliers were sparse. Only two runs were scored in the game.
The first of the two runs occurred in the second inning. The first batter of the bottom of the second inning, Daniel Stewart, got to first via an error and moved to second on a wild pitch. A flyout to center field moved Stewart farther to the other side of the diamond on third base. A sacrifice fly by Braxton Turner helped Stewart score, giving the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. The other run, which went to TWU, went on the board in the fourth inning.
Blake Hubble got on base with a double to right field. Marco Martinez followed with a double that resulted in an RBI as Hubble ran across home plate to make the score 2-0. The defense along with the pitching of Daniel Davila, Julian Berinti, and Gage Vailes held Montreat off the board, giving the Bulldogs the series win as they won the third game 2-0.
Davila finished with six strikeouts in seven innings while only giving up three hits in the pitching win. Berinti had two strikeouts in one inning while Vailes struck out one batter while getting the save.
Up next for the Bulldogs (6-5, 2-1 AAC) is a road AAC three-game series against Columbia International University. The series begins on Friday with a single game at 2:00 p.m.
