No. 6 Baseball Drops Doubleheader Against No. 23 Reinhardt

WALESKA, Ga.- After hosting a top ten team on Tuesday, the sixth-ranked baseball team went on the road for an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) series against another ranked opponent. The series against the No. 23 Reinhardt University Eagles with a doubleheader on Saturday.

Game One:

Tennessee Wesleyan fell behind early in the game. Reinhardt scored one run in the first inning. The offense made a move in the fifth inning. 

Trailing 3-0, Dante Leach started the fifth inning with a solo home run to right field. Blake Hubble made it two home runs in the inning, also sending the ball over the right-field wall. Marco Martinez kept the inning going with a walk and Jack Stevens followed with a single to right field. Cody McGill gave the team the lead after his single brought both Martinez and Stevens across home plate, making the score 4-3 after the end of the top of the fifth. The lead changed again in the bottom of the fifth as Reinhardt went ahead 8-4. 

The team made one more run at taking the lead in the eighth inning. Leach started with his second homer of the game and Braxton Turner followed with a double. Hubble recorded his second RBI when Turner scored on his double. The score turned to 8-7 when Hubble scored on an at-bat by Stevens that ended in an error. The inning ended though before the Bulldogs to tack on any more runs and Reinhardt went on to take game one by a 9-7 score.

Game Two:

Tennessee Wesleyan took the first lead of the game when Daniel Stewart blasted a home run in the second inning. Reinhardt took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second though.

In the bottom of the fourth, Reinhardt added a run to their lead. Like the fifth inning of the first game, the Bulldogs struck again on offense. With Corbin Shaw standing on first, Turner hit a homer to left field to tie the game 3-3. Martinez gave the team a 4-3 lead with his solo home run, giving the team a one-run advantage when the half inning ended. Unfortunately, the opponents scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to move ahead 7-4. Stewart recorded his second RBI of the game in the sixth inning, bringing Cayle Webster across home plate but the team could not find two more runs to extend the game, falling by a final score of 7-5.

TWU (9-8, 4-4 AAC) will close out the series against Reinhardt on Sunday with a single game beginning at 2:00 p.m.
