No. 22 Baseball Plate 16 Runs in Suspended Game at KCU
GRAYSON, Ky.- The baseball team went on the road for an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) series on Thursday. The No. 22 Bulldogs traveled to the home of the Kentucky Christian University Knights for a three-game series.
Weather forced the game between the two teams to move the opening game to Thursday from Friday, and the weather had an effect late in the game. The offense for TWU could be described in a weather term, and that word is hot as the team scored at least one run in all but one inning.
The offense started with three runs in the top of the first. As Braxton Turner stood on third and Blake Hubble was on second, Marco Martinez hit a double to bring both the runners in. Martinez became the third run of the inning on the Cayle Webster single. The second inning saw one run come across in the form of a solo home run by Carson Ford. Another three runs came home in the third inning.
Martinez and Jack Stevens occupied the bases when Webster hit a single that Martinez scored on again. Evan Magill followed with a single that brought Stevens home and Webster became the third run when he tagged up from third base on Kruise Neman's sacrifice fly, making the score 7-0. Two more runs scored in the fourth inning, this time a Martinez two-run homer that brought Hubble home as well. Magill made the score 10-0 with a solo home run in the fifth inning.
A scoreless sixth inning led the way to a six-run seventh inning. In the top of the seventh inning, Cade Bochlter was standing on second base as he watched Corbin Shaw send a pitch over the right-center-field wall, moving the lead to 12-0. The lead moved to 14-0 when Hagen Escoto hit a double to right field that scored both Newman and Ford. The offensive half for the Bulldogs ended with the team leading 16-0 after Stevens' double brought Cody McGill and Escoto across home plate. Then the weather came back into play as a line of storms forced the game to be suspended and completed on Saturday.
The game will finish at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
