No. 22 Baseball Splits AAC Doubleheader Against Bryan

ATHENS, Tenn.- The series featuring the No. 22 baseball team and Bryan College finished with a doubleheader on Saturday. 

Game One:

A ground out brought in the first run of the game in the second inning. Evan Magill stood on third and crossed home plate on Cody McGill's ground out, giving the team a 1-0 lead. The team moved their lead to three runs in the third inning. Marco Martinez hit a double to right field and moved to third on a wild pitch. Martinez scored on a second wild pitch that resulted in a walk for Cayle Webster. After stealing second and moving to third on a ground out, Webster scored on a wild pitch to make the score 3-0.

Each team scored a run in the fourth inning. The run for the Bulldogs was scored by Carson Ford. Ford singled and moved to second on a hit by pitch on Braxton Turner. A sacrifice bunt by Blake Hubble moved each runner a base and Ford scored on a Martinez ground out. The final run of the game occurred in the fifth inning. 

Webster got to base with a walk and advanced to second on an error. Two sacrifice hits helped Webster complete his time on base as Magill hit a sacrifice bunt to move Webster to third and Webster scored on a sacrifice fly by Kruise Newman, helping the team win game one 5-1.  

Jake Sergent pitched four innings in the game and 6 Ks while Blake Peyton struck out seven batters in five innings. 

Game Two:

The second game of the doubleheader saw the Bulldogs trail early. The opponents scored six runs through the first two innings. TWU did not get on the board until the fifth inning.

The team cut the lead in half in the fifth inning. Turner, Webster, and Martinez occupied the bases as Jack Stevens came to the plate. Stevens connected with a ball that resulted in a double and brought Turner and Webster home. Stewart hit a sacrifice fly that Martinez scored on, making the score 6-3 at the end of the fifth. Corbin Shaw gave the Bulldogs another run in the sixth, scoring on a Dante Leach single. Tennessee Wesleyan was able to score one more run in the game, a Stevens score off Magill's double, dropping the second game of the doubleheader by a score of 7-5. 

Stevens led the offense with two RBIs.
