No. 22 Baseball Falls to No. 2 Georgia Gwinnett
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga.- The baseball team faced a ranked opponent on the road on Monday. The 22nd-ranked Bulldogs traveled to the home of the No. 2 Georgia Gwinnett College Grizzlies.
Pitching dominated the first two innings as neither team recorded a hit. The game changed in the third inning as Georgia Gwinnett took a 3-0 lead. TWU cut in the lead in the top of the fourth.
Cayle Webster got on base via an error. Daniel Stewart hit a single to move Webster to second. Evan Magill came to the plate and advanced Webster to third with his single and an error on the play gave Webster the room to score, making the score 3-1. The opponents led 4-1 after the fourth inning. In the eighth inning, the Bulldogs had a chance to tie the score.
Jack Stevens (double), Stewart (hit by pitch), and Magill (single) all got on base to load the bases and be the tying runs. Unfortunately, the third out in the inning was recorded before Tennessee Wesleyan could bring a run home. The team was not able to find the runs needed to extend the game as Georgia Gwinnett won the game by a final score of 7-1.
Magill led the offense with two hits. Daniel Davila had five strikeouts on the mound.
The schedule keeps the Bulldogs (20-11) on the road for their next game. The team will begin a conference series against (RV) Milligan University on Friday. The first game of the series will begin at 4:00 p.m.
