No. 20 Baseball Loses Momentum in Game Against No. 3 GGC

ATHENS, Tenn.- The baseball team opened a home series against a top five team on Friday. The 20th-ranked Bulldogs began a three-game series against the Georgia Gwinnett College Grizzlies, the third ranked team in the nation. The teams started with a single game.

Cayle Webster gave the team the first lead of the game. Standing on second after two walks, Braxton Turner scored from second on Webster's single to give the team a 1-0 lead. Georgia Gwinnett scored four runs in the second and one in the fourth though to move ahead 5-1. TWU took back the momentum back and turned it into a lead in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Jack Stevens started the inning with a solo home run. The bases became loaded shortly after, as hits by Evan Magill, Kruise Newman, and Daniel Stewart put runners on all the squares. Turner brought Magill home and kept the bases loaded with his single. Blake Hubble unloaded the bases and gave the team a 7-5 lead with his grand slam.

The momentum changed again. Georgia Gwinnett scored four runs through the sixth and seventh inning to take the lead back 9-7. In the eighth inning, Newman cut the deficit to one run with his solo shot but the Bulldogs were unable to pull any closer, falling by a final score of 11-8.

Hubble led the offense with four RBIs. Sam Rochard led the pitching staff with five strikeouts.

Tennessee Wesleyan (26-14) closes out the series with Georgia Gwinnett on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
