No. 20 Baseball Run Rules St. Andrews

ATHENS, Tenn.- The baseball team was back in action on Friday at Athens Insurance Stadium. The 20th-ranked Bulldogs hosted the St. Andrews University Knights in an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) series.

Through the first four innings, TWU scored ten runs. After getting on base with a single, Jack Stevens stole second and moved to third on a balk. A wild pitch on a Marco Martinez walk allowed Stevens to score.  A double to left field by Evan Magill moved Martinez to third, who went on to score on another wild pitch. Magill gave the team a 3-0 lead at the end of the first when he scored on Daniel Stewart's ground out.

Cody McGill moved the lead to 4-0 with his solo home run in the second inning. In the third inning, Martinez hit a double to get on base and moved to third on a Magill ground out. Stewart recorded his second RBI of the game when Martinez scored on his single.

In the fourth, McGill opened the inning with his second solo shot. Soon after, the bases became loaded with Dante Leach, Kruise Newman, and Martinez on the bases. An error on Magill's at-bat allowed both Leach and Newman to score, making the score 8-0. The bases became loaded again as Carson Ford earned a walk. Cayle Webster and McGill made it three straight walks in a row, scoring both Martinez and Magill in the process of moving the lead to 10-0.

The game came to an end in the seventh inning of the scheduled nine-inning game when the run rule came into effect. Stevens sent a ball over the right-field wall to give the team the ten-run win by a score of 11-1.

McGill led the offense with three RBIs. Sam Rochard got the pitching win, tossing all seven innings for the Bulldogs while striking out eight batters.

Tennessee Wesleyan (28-15, 18-7 AAC) closes out the series against St. Andrews with a doubleheader on Saturday. The first game is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
