No. 2 Seed Baseball Falls Late in AAC Tournament

KINGSPORT, Tenn.- A trip to the championship game was on the line for the No. 2 seed baseball team on Friday. A win against the No. 6 seed in the opposing dugout, the Montreat College Cavaliers, would put the Bulldogs in the championship game on Saturday.

TWU was put in a hole early in the game as Montreat scored the first four runs of the game. Dante Leach got the team on the board in the third inning, hitting a double to left field to get on base and scoring on Carson Ford's double. Montreat scored a run in the fourth inning to move back ahead by four runs.

By the seventh inning the game was tied. Leach, via a walk, and Ford, via a hit by pitch, became base runners in the fifth inning. After a fly out moved Leach a base forward to third, a wild pitch move each runner a base, scoring Leach to make the score 5-2. Ford eventually scored on a throwing error, moving the score to 5-3.

Daniel Stewart made the deficit one run in the sixth inning with a solo home run. In the seventh inning, Jack Stevens scored on a Marco Martinez sacrifice fly, tying the score 5-5.

The game tying run came across the plate in the eighth inning. Unfortunately, it was by the opponents. The Bulldogs were not able to find the runs to take back the lead, falling by a final score of 6-5.

Daniel Davila finished with nine strikeouts.

Tennessee Wesleyan (35-16) will play again in the double elimination format tournament on Saturday. A win in the 10:00 a.m., game against Montreat College will put the Bulldogs in the championship game, set to be played later Saturday afternoon.
