No. 1 Baseball Completes Series Sweep of No. 6 Reinhardt

ATHENS, Tenn.- The baseball team closed out the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) series against the No. 6 Reinhardt University Eagles with a doubleheader sweep. The top-ranked Bulldogs won the games 6-4 and 3-0.

Game One:

Through three and a half innings, TWU trailed the Eagles 1-0. Kolton Reynolds changed that with a solo home run, tying the game 1-1 after four innings. In the fifth inning, the Bulldogs hit two more home runs to take the lead.

Kruise Newman hit the first home, a solo shot that broke the tie. Daniel Stewart hit the second home run of the fifth inning, this time a two-run home run with Josh Shelly on base already. After Reinhardt cut the lead down to one in the top of the sixth, Geremy Garcia gave the team a 5-3 lead on a sacrifice fly that scored Edwin Toribio. Cody McGill added an insurance run in the seventh inning in the form of a solo home run in the 6-4 win.

Daniel Batcher got the pitching win, striking out six batters in six innings. Daniel Davila got the save.

Game Two:

Pitching and defense kept the Eagles at bay in game two. Blake Peyton had 12 strikeouts in six innings of scoreless baseball for Tennessee Wesleyan. Offensively, the Bulldogs scored one run in three different innings in picking up a 3-0 win.

In the first inning, Devin Dixon scored off Reynold's RBI single to give the team a 1-0 lead. The lead grew to 2-0 in the fourth inning when Chris Catalano scored on a single by Toribio. The third run of the game was brought in by Stewart with a double bringing Josh Shelly across home plate.

TWU moves to 16-3 overall and 8-1 in the AAC with the wins. The team will go on the road for their next games, a doubleheader against Brewton-Parker College on Tuesday beginning at 4:00 p.m.
