Men's Basketball Wins on Last Second Shot

Dayton, Tenn.- The men's basketball went on the road for an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) game on Tuesday. It was a short trip for the team as they traveled to take on AAC rival, the Bryan College Lions.

Elisha Mayberry gave the team their first lead of the game with a three-pointer. Over the next few minutes, the team trailed, staying in the game on Kobe Pride baskets and tying the game 10-10 on a Ray Tyler three-pointer. At the 12:01 mark, Tyler gave the team a 15-13 lead with a three-pointer. Back-to-back scores from Jonathan Webb moved the lead to 20-16. After a Webb free throw made the score 23-20, Bryan scored twice to take the lead with 4:12 remaining in the first half. The half saw three more lead changes though, two of the caused by Tyler, with the final one occurring on Tyler's three-pointer with six seconds left to give the Bulldogs a 29-27 halftime lead.

Through the first seven minutes of the second half, the action remained close. With the score 42-37 in favor of the opponents, TWU went on a run. Beginning with a Tyler layup, the Bulldogs outscored the Lions 17-2 over a seven minute span. Tyler, Cameron Montgomery, Webb, Mayberry, and Darius Rozier combined to give Tennessee Wesleyan a 54-44 lead with 6:23 remaining in the game. The team's comfortable margin did not last though. The opponents came back to tie the game 59-59 with 30 seconds left. Out of a timeout, Montgomery knocked down a three-point basket off a Tyler assist, and Webb forced a turnover on the ensuing Lions possession, giving the Bulldogs a 62-59 win.

Tyler led the offense with 18 points in the contest. Mayberry added 13 points while Webb contributed 11 points. Mayberry led on the boards with nine rebounds.

The win moved the team's record to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the AAC.
