Men's Basketball Falls to No. 2 Georgetown

KINGSPORT, Tenn.- The men's basketball team played two games in The Show. The first game of the 10th annual NAIA Basketball Showcase for the Bulldogs came against the No. 2 ranked Georgetown College Tigers on Saturday. The team fell 88-62

TWU started the game looking to challenge Georgetown's strong defense. Amauri Young got the Bulldogs on the board with a mid-range jumper followed by a layup to make it 7-4 early in the first half. Ty Hurst added a free throw and a layup, while Armando Cuardado contributed with a defensive rebound and a well-executed assist. Jay Reed's layup and free throws kept TWU within striking distance midway through the half, and Reshaun Hampton made an impactful layup to energize the offense. TWU capitalized on turnovers and offensive rebounds to stay competitive, finishing the half trailing 47-31 despite consistent effort on both ends of the court.

In the second half, TWU came out strong, with Young and Reed providing key scoring plays to chip away at Georgetown's lead. Hurst knocked down a jump shot, and Stratton Lovvorn made a critical three-pointer, demonstrating Tennessee Wesleyan's determination to stay in the fight. Despite Georgetown's offensive pressure, the Bulldogs' defense tightened, forcing turnovers and creating scoring opportunities. Hampton added a three-pointer and a late layup, while Young's steals and assists helped TWU close the gap to as little as 18 points at one stage, before ultimately falling 88-62.

Hurst led the offense with 14 points.

The team closes out The Show with a game on Sunday against Cumberland University at 4:15 p.m.
