Men's Basketball Doomed by Second Half Surge

ATHENS, Tenn.- The men's basketball team were in action for the first time in 2025 on Friday. The team hosted the Dalton State College Roadrunners. It was a tough night for the Bulldogs as the visitors won the game 101-76.

TWU began the game with energy and precision. Amauri Young opened the scoring with a layup, quickly followed by a three-pointer from Ty Hurst, assisted by Young, to establish a 5-0 lead. Defensive rebounds by Armando Cuardado and aggressive play by Jay Reed kept Dalton State's offense in check. Young's scoring ability, combined with Hurst's sharp shooting, helped TWU maintain the lead early. Peyton West added a critical three-pointer, and Young's steal led to a fast-break opportunity, keeping TWU competitive. However, Dalton State's offensive efficiency in the latter part of the half allowed them to edge ahead by halftime, with TWU trailing narrowly, 47-46.

The game saw a momentum shift as Dalton State surged in the second half. TWU fought back with contributions from Young, who delivered a key jump shot early in the half, and Reshaun Hampton, who sank a timely three-pointer to keep the Bulldogs within striking distance. Reed and Charles Neverdon added crucial points, including Neverdon's impressive three-pointer late in the game. However, as the half progressed, the offense fell out of rhythm, allowing Dalton State to build and sustain a lead they carried to the end of the game.

Hurst led the team with 13 points.

TWU (3-8) will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Milligan University in a conference game. The contest is set to begin at 7:30 p.m.
