
Men's Basketball Scores 57 Points in Second Half in Win Against Union
ATHENS, Tenn.- After trailing at halftime, the men's basketball used a 57-point offensive performance to defeat the Union College Bulldogs 93-76 on Thursday. It was the program's first win against the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) foe in eight games.
TWU started slowly, as Union built an early lead, putting the Bulldogs in a 12-2. After trailing by double-digits for a good portion of the first half, the team battled back to cut the deficit to three points on a Reshaun Hampton three-pointer, making the score 21-18. Charles Neverdon scored five consecutive points shortly after and a Hampton three-pointer gave the team their first lead at 26-24. After seeing the lead go away, Peyton West gave the team a 32-31 advantage with 2:38 remaining until halftime. Union eventually took the lead back though, putting the Bulldogs behind 41-36 by halftime.
TWU erupted offensively in the second half, overwhelming Union Commonwealth with their dynamic play. Armando Cuardado, Jay Reed, Ty Hurst, and Peyton West helped the Bulldogs keep pace with their scores early in the second half. A three-point basket by Amauri Young sparked a 15-0 run that put Tennessee Wesleyan ahead for good, ending with a Stratton Lovvorn three-point shot to make the score 64-53. Union cut the lead to six before another run that had a Kariden Hardrick score and a Lovvorn three-point play pushed the Bulldogs ahead 78-61 with six minutes left. Lovvorn, Reed, and Ty Runyan, and Neverdon helped the team move out to their largest lead of 21 points as TWU went on to win by 17 points.
Hampton (18), Lovvorn (15), Neverdon (12), Hardrick (10), and Reed (10 points and 10 rebounds) all scored in double figures.
The schedule keeps the Bulldogs (4-9, 3-5 AAC) at home for the third consecutive game when they face AAC rival Bryan College on Wednesday. The game is set for 7:30 p.m.
