Men's Basketball Drops Road Finale to Milligan
ELIZABETHTON, Tenn.- The men's basketball team played on the road for the final time during the regular season on Wednesday. The team fell to the Milligan University Buffaloes 102-73.
The game began with Tennessee Wesleyan striking first, as Amauri Young opened the scoring with a layup off a defensive rebound. Jay Reed followed with another inside bucket, giving the Bulldogs an early 4-0 lead. However, Milligan responded with a flurry of baskets, taking advantage of missed shots and turnovers by Tennessee Wesleyan.
Ty Hurst and Charles Neverdon attempted to spark the Bulldogs' offense with three-point attempts, but Milligan's defense remained strong. By the 10-minute mark, the Buffaloes had built a 20-9 advantage. Despite efforts from Peyton West and Stratton Lovvorn to slow Milligan's momentum, Tennessee Wesleyan trailed 49-26 at halftime.
Coming out of the break, Tennessee Wesleyan ramped up the intensity. West knocked down a three-pointer to cut into the lead, while Young and Hurst worked inside to find scoring opportunities. A steal and dunk from Reshaun Hampton briefly energized the Bulldogs, but Milligan responded with another scoring run.
Despite improved offensive execution, the Bulldogs struggled to contain Milligan's perimeter shooting. Late in the game, Reed and Hampton provided some highlight plays, with Reed converting a tough layup and Hampton drilling a deep three-pointer. However, Milligan maintained control and closed out the game with free throws and transition buckets, securing the 102-73 victory.
