Men's Bowling Opens MSC Play with Two Top Six Finishes; JV Team Wins Brandon Burns Memorial
SMYRNA, Tenn.- The men's bowling team played in two Mid-South Conference (MSC) events on Saturday and Sunday. The team spent the weekend in Smyrna, Tenn., playing in the Greater Nashville Open on Saturday and the Brandon Burns Memorial on Sunday.
Greater Nashville Open:
The weekend started with the Greater Nashville Open. In the team standings, TWU finished sixth overall.
In the four team games, the Bulldogs had two games with over 1,000 pins knocked over, including a high of 1,085. Those totals helped the team complete that portion of the tournament with 3,978 pins knocked over. In the eight baker games to end the tournament, the team added 1,507 pins to their score to give them a tournament score of 5,485.
Landyn Sanders (928 pins; 5th) and Cameron Compton (845; 19th) gave Tennessee Wesleyan two top twenty finishers in the individual scores.
Brandon Burns Memorial:
In the second event of the weekend, the Bulldogs earned a fourth-place finish. The team earned the spot by knocking down 5,699 pins in the Brandon Burns Memorial.
In every team game, TWU scored over 1,000 pins, hitting 1,071 in their highest-scoring team game. The team ended the team games with a total score of 4,101. TWU added 1,598 pins in the eight baker games to get to their tournament total.
Sanders had the highest finish for the team, knocking down 963 pins to finish second while Tate Gray (919, 9th) and John Brooks (915, 10th) also finished in the top ten.
The three top ten finishes helped the JV team win the JV Division of the Brandon Burns Memorial.
The team will be back in action on Saturday and Sunday at the Southern Collegiate Classic in Marietta, Ga.
