Men's Bowling Finishes Second at MSC Championships

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- The men's bowling team were attempting to win a conference championship over the past few days. The defending Mid-South Conference (MSC) Men's Bowling Champions were looking to get it two straight championships at the MSC Championship Tournament.

Thursday:

The tournament started with singles and doubles play on Thursday. In the doubles portion, Kory Driver and John Brooks finished tied for second with 1,378 pins, taking the silver medal home. Driver took home a second medal as he was the winner of the singles tournament, knocking over 774 pins to earn the gold medal. 

In the first round of team play, the Bulldogs, who were the second seed after finishing second in the regular season, beat the No. 7 seed Lindsey Wilson College 4-1 to move on to the next round of the double elimination tournament.

Friday:

On Friday, Tennessee Wesleyan moved to the semifinals of the tournament with a 4-3 win over No. 3 Cumberland University. The team would have to battle back though to make it to the championship day as they fell to the No. 1 seed in the field, the University of Pikeville, 4-2. Make it back they did though as they defeated Lindsey Wilson again, this time 4-0, to move on to the championship match.

Saturday:

To return home with their second consecutive conference title, the Bulldogs needed to win two championship rounds against the top-seed Pikeville. TWU was successful in winning the first of the two rounds against Pikeville by a score of 4-2. In the winner take-all championship round though, Pikeville went on to take the match by a 4-0 score. 

TWU will now wait to see if they earn an at-large bit to the NAIA National Championship Tournament. The qualifiers are set to be announced on March 3. The national championship is set for March 20-22 in Sterling Heights, Mich.

USBC ITC Sectionals

The team also learned they were selected to compete at the Smyrna, Tenn., USBC ITC Sectionals at the Smyrna, Tenn., location. The team will compete there March 8-9.
