
Men's Lacrosse Fall in Overtime Against No. 8 Concordia
ATHENS, Tenn.- The men's lacrosse team played an exciting game on Sunday. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs fell in overtime to No. 8 Concordia University Ann Arbor 17-16.
At the end of the first quarter, the Bulldogs were trailing 3-2. After seeing the first goal go for the opponent, Carson Bowling scored two goals to put TWU ahead 2-1. Concordia scored the next two goals to hold the lead at the end of the quarter.
Hayden Harmon put the game in a brief tie before two goals by the opponents moved the score to 5-3 to begin the second quarter. A three-goal streak, consisting of two goals by Bowling and a goal by Harmon put the Bulldogs back in front 6-5. Tennessee Wesleyan went into halftime with an 8-7 lead after two Bowling goals.
Out of the halftime break, Bowling pushed the team ahead 9-7. The back-and-forth exchange continued as AJ Carsto gave a response to a Concordia score with a goal, moving the team's lead to 10-8. Harmon made it two goals in a row to make the lead three goals a few moments later. Concordia scored the next two goals though before the team moved their lead back out to three goals on scores by Jack Driscoll, Bowling, and Torin Piper.
The game took a turn in the fourth quarter. The opponents scored the first four goals of the quarter to put the Bulldogs down 16-14 with 5:33 remaining. Bowling scored with 2:15 remaining and 36 seconds later, Piper sent a ball flying into the net to tie the game at 16. The game went to overtime as neither team broke the 16-16 tie before the end of regulation.
Neither team scored in the first overtime. The game-winning goal occurred 26 seconds into the second overtime period when Concordia scored in the first-to-score format to win the game 17-16.
Bowling scored a career-high nine goals in the game. Jack Shaw finished with 19 saves in the net.
Tennessee Wesleyan (1-3) will be back in action on Saturday when they host No. 1 Keiser University in a conference game. The game will begin at 1:00 p.m.
