
Comeback Attempt Falls Short for Men's Lacrosse
ATHENS, Tenn.- After 11 days off, the men's lacrosse team returned to the field at the TWU Athletic Complex on Wednesday. A comeback attempt against the Life University Eagles fell short as the final score was 12-10 in favor of the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) opponents.
By the end of the first quarter, the game was tied 2-2. Hayden Harmon started the scoring, scoring on a Kennedy Moore assist. Life scored the next two goals to take over the lead. Moore picked up his second assist of the quarter with 1:57 remaining on Carson Bowling's goal.
The Bulldogs broke the tie in the opening minutes of the second quarter. Harmon scored on a Bowling assist and broke another tie moments later, moving the score to 4-3. Kyle Gasior, who recorded his 800th career faceoff win in the game, scored 51 seconds after Harmon's last goal, putting the team up by two goals. The moment changed though as Life scored four consecutive goals, giving them a 7-5 lead at the halftime break.
A goal exchange occurred to begin the third quarter. Harmon scored the second goal of the exchange, keeping TWU within two goals of the lead. Life built their lead to five goals though by scoring the next three goals, putting the Bulldogs in an 11-6 hole. Moore and Bowling, who scored on a Jack Driscoll assist, dug the team out of the hole a little bit, each scoring a goal to make the score 11-8 at the end of the third quarter.
Tennessee Wesleyan kept the momentum through a goal by Harmon. Bowling brought the team within one goal of the lead, scoring off a pass by Harmon with 5:37 remaining. Unfortunately, Life scored with 1:40 left in the game and the Bulldogs were unable to pull any closer before the final buzzer.
Harmon finished the game with five goals and two assists while Bowling had three goals and two assists. Jack Shaw had 12 saves in the net.
Up next for the Bulldogs (3-6, 0-4 AAC) is the team's final non-conference game of the regular season on Saturday. The team will host No. 8 Aquinas College at 3:30 p.m.
