Late Goal Sinks (RV) Men's Soccer Against CIU

Athens, Tenn.- Two of the top teams based on preseason projections and season results in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) played in Athens on Saturday. The (RV) men's soccer team hosted the Columbia International University Rams in a crucial conference contest.

The game saw a goal scored early in the game. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, it was scored by Columbia International University in the fourth minute. TWU found the equalizer in the 23rd minute when Jarimyah Cook scored, evening the score 1-1. Neither team recorded a goal during the remainder of the first half, sending the game into halftime with the teams tied.

In the second half, the game saw another quick goal after the intermission. Once again though, the goal went towards the opponent's score in the 52nd minute. A few minutes later at the 56:44 mark, a hand ball in the box gave the Bulldogs a penalty kick. Wynand Wessels stepped in to take the kick, sending the ball into the net to tie the game 2-2. In the 64th minute, the game took another turn as a red card put the Bulldogs down a man. The contest looked like it was going to end in a tie before a goal by the opponents in the 87th minute allowed them to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Bulldogs.

Michael Garrihy recorded four saves in the net.

The loss moved the team's record to 8-2-5 overall and 7-2-2 in the AAC.
