GRAYSON, Ky.- The men's soccer team, receiving votes in the latest NAIA poll, traveled to Kentucky for an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) game on Wednesday. The team won by a comfy margin, defeating the Kentucky Christian University Knights by a eight-goal margin.
Grant Barron got the scoring started off for the Bulldogs in the 17th minute, taking a forced turnover and turning it into a ball the opposing keeper could not stop. Dylan Connell scored the next two goals, the first one off a Kuda Nhiwatiwa and Barron assist. Forty-eight seconds later, Connell scored his second goal of the contest, moving the lead to 3-0. The final goal of the first half came with eight seconds before the halftime buzzer when Rueben Hazelby headed a Dave Neijenhuis pass into the net, giving the team a 4-0 lead at the break.
Five minutes into the second half, Neijenhuis joined the scoring, flicking a pass from Julien Withrow into the net to move the lead to five goals. Withrow followed the trend of scoring, netting a ball minutes later to make the score 6-0. The lead moved to 7-0 when Jarimyah Cook scored off a Logan Haricombe shot the opposing keeper could not hold on to. On a free kick taken by Cian Gantley, Faheem Khan headed the incoming ball into the net to give the Bulldogs the final 8-0 score.
Michael Garrihy and Pedro De Moraes split time in the net.
Tennessee Wesleyan (3-2-3, 3-0-1 AAC) plays their next game at the TWU Athletic Complex against Bluefield University. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m.
