ATHENS, Tenn.- The (RV) men's soccer team returned to their home field on Tuesday for an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) contest. The team hosted the newcomers to the conference, the University of Pikeville Bears, in a game at the TWU Athletic Complex where the team scored six goals in a win.
Three of the six goals came in the first half. The first goal came 10th minute when Bada Sady took the ball away and turned into a goal for the team, giving them a quick 1-0 advantage. Eleven minutes later in the 21st minute, Cian Gantley turned a free kick into the second goal of the contest, hitting the lower left corner from about 23 yards out. Luis Baldivieso moved the lead to 3-0 just before the halftime break, scoring on a Charlie Wood assist at the 42:06 mark of the half.
Grant Barron started the second half scoring for the Bulldogs. The midfielder turned passes from Dave Neijenhuis and Gantley into the first of the three goals in the second half. Neijenhuis assisted on the next goal as well, finding Julien Withrow for a goal in the 68th minute. Neijenhuis continued his involvement with the scoring, this time being the scorer in the third goal of the half and the sixth goal of the game for TWU. The team won by a final score of 6-0.
This was the team's sixth consecutive win in shutout fashion.
The schedule keeps the Bulldogs (8-2-3, 8-0-1 AAC) at home for their next game. The team will host No. 17 Union College on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
