ATHENS, Tenn.- A day after beating the No. 21 ranked team in the NAIA, the men's soccer team returned to Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play against the Kentucky Christian University Knights. TWU won Wednesday's game against the AAC opponent 5-0.
The Bulldogs wasted no time asserting their control. Tennessee Wesleyan's relentless pressure paid off in the 21st minute when Robin Vezinhet broke through with the game's first goal, giving the Bulldogs a well-deserved 1-0 lead. The team continued to take shots but only one goal occurred in the first half.
Tennessee Wesleyan came out firing again in the second half, determined to build on their lead. In the 68th minute, Sjoerd Spijkers doubled the score, finishing beautifully from an assist by Santiago Blanco. Just five minutes later, Khumo Modise made it 3-0 with a clinical finish. The Bulldogs kept adding to the score. Spijkers added his second goal of the match in the 85th minute. But Tennessee Wesleyan was not done yet, as Cameron Grooms put the final nail in the coffin with a late goal in the 88th minute, assisted by Logan Thompson, to seal the 5-0 victory.
The win moved the team's record to 3-2-2 overall and 1-1-2 in the AAC.
