Men's Tennis Upset No. 1 Seed to Move to NAIA Tournament Championship Match for First Time in Program History

Mobile, Ala.- After playing two matches the day before, the schedule got back to normal for the men's tennis team at the NAIA Tournament on Friday. The team, seeded No. 4 in the tournament, were playing in their third consecutive semifinals in the tournament. The team was facing the No. 1 seed in the tournament, the Keiser University Seahawks, with a trip to the championship match on the line.

The top opponents battled in the doubles point as all three matches finished to their conclusion. Score of 6-4 in both the No. 1 doubles, featuring Nicolas Cortes Campos and Octavio Volpi, and the No. 2 doubles featuring Gabriel Ortiz and Ruben Busch gave the Bulldogs the doubles point and a 1-0 lead into the singles point.

In the singles matches, Keiser gave TWU some trouble, taking two singles matches. Ortiz, Zoilo Rios, and Volpi won their singles matches, giving the Bulldogs four points to clinch the match by a 4-2 score.

The win advances Tennessee Wesleyan (22-1) to the national championship match of the NAIA Tournament for the first time in program history. The team will face the No. 2 seed in the tournament, Georgia Gwinnett College, at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday.
