No. 2 Men's Tennis Moves to Next Round of NAIA Tournament

MOBILE, Ala.- After getting a bye into the second round, the men's tennis team played their first match at the 2024 NAIA Men's Tennis National Championship Tournament on Wednesday. The second-seeded Bulldogs faced the No. 15 seed in the tournament, the Lindsey Wilson College Blue Raiders, in their first match.

The matches at the tournament are being played in a first-to-clinch format, meaning the first team to win four out of the seven possible points won the match regardless of the outcome of the remaining matches.

Wins in the doubles matches by Octavio Volpi and German Delcanto (No. 1 doubles; 6-2) and Agustin Gaia and Gregorio Magnarelli (No. 3 doubles; 6-0) gave TWU an earlier advantage as it gave them a 1-0 lead to begin the singles.

The lead grew 4-0 for the Bulldogs in the singles matches, giving them the match win. David Leon won the No. 6 singles 6-1, 6-0 while Sabi Roi made the overall score 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 win in the No. 2 singles. Zoilo Rios helped the team clinch the match with a 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 5 singles, making the final overall match score 4-0 to move Tennessee Wesleyan to the quarterfinals.

The Bulldogs (20-1) will face the No. 10 seed in the tournament, Williams Woods University, in the Round of Eight on Thursday at 10:00 a.m, EST.
