Men's Cross Country Finishes Fifth at AAC Championships; Alas Qualifies for Nationals

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.- The men's cross country team returned to Knoxville on Friday for the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Championships. Along with running for a conference championship, the Bulldogs were running for a chance to compete at the NAIA National Championship Meet.  

Mack Alas was the first runner from Tennessee Wesleyan to finish the race, running a time of 25:29 to place 13th overall. A time of 25:54 placed Caleb Greene in 22th place. Finishing in 40th place was Dani Meisen in a time of 27:21 while Eli Cox was five spots behind in 45th with a time of 27:42. Zane Marlow (28:11) and Stephen Kerley (28:14) finished back-to-back in 50th and 51st place to go along with a 53rd place by Adrian Nelka-Hernandez (28:19).

Conner Craig crossed the finish line in a time of 28:39 to finish in 58th place, two spots in front of Braden Huyhn, who was 60th in a time of 28:45. Jack Headrick (29:57, 72nd) and Randy Barnes (31:36, 81st) rounded out the Bulldogs in the field. 

A team score of 132 helped the Bulldogs finish fifth place in the team standings.

With his 13th place finish, Alas earned a spot on the All-AAC Second Team and qualified for the national championship meet. Meisen earned a spot on the All-AAC Freshmen Team as one of the top seven freshmen finishers in the race.
