No. 18 Softball Falls to No. 13 Cumberlands

Williamsburg, Ky.- The 18th-ranked softball team went on the road to face a ranked opponent on Wednesday. The team faced the No. 13 University of the Cumberlands Lady Patriots in a single game.

The first inning saw the opponents move ahead 1-0. Courtney Sneed started the attempt to get the run back in the top of the second with a single. Sneed moved to second on a Malyssa Jeter sacrifice bunt before two pop ups ended the inning, leaving Sneed on second. The third and fourth innings saw three hits occur, one from Caroline Moore, but no runs were added to either score.

In the fifth inning, the score changed. Unfortunately for TWU, Cumberlands added two runs to their lead to put the Lady Bulldogs in a 3-0 hole. In the sixth inning, Madison Miner opened with a single, and a double by Destiny Painter brought the game-tying run to the plate with two runners, with pinch-runner Emma Clevinger standing on third. The team was not able to bring the runs aboard in the bottom of the sixth and a hit by Emily Mikkola in the seventh inning did not produce any runs, giving the opponents a 3-0 win.

Painter, Moore, Sneed, Mikkola, and Miner finished with hits in the game. Cheyenne Strong led the pitching staff with three strikeouts.

The loss moved the team's record to 8-5 overall.
