Softball Hands No. 24 Reinhardt First AAC Lost

WALESKA, Ga.- The softball stayed on the road for an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) series. TWU was standing in the opposing dugout of the No. 24 Reinhardt University Lady Eagles.

Game One:

Trailing 2-0 entering the third inning, Macy Chastain got the Lady Bulldogs on the board. Chastain hit a triple to get on base and scored on Courtney Sneed's sacrifice fly. Reinhardt got the run back in the bottom of the third and extended their lead to 7-2 by the seventh inning. Tennessee Wesleyan's second run came in the sixth inning, a Sneed score on Bailee Phillips' single. Needing five runs in the top of the seventh inning to extend the game to extra innings, the Lady Bulldogs scored six to take the lead.

Carlynn Atamaniuk opened the seventh with a single. Chastain followed with a single and the bases became loaded as Sneed's hit caused an error. Taylor Penning hit a ground out that allowed Atamaniuk to score. Emily Higgins earned a walk and Phillips hit a single that scored Chastain, making the score 7-4. Kaley Bradley hit a ground out that gave Sneed the space to score, and Mackzenie Baldwin tied the score 7-7 with her double scoring both pinch-runners Ali Richards and Italia Kyle. Pinch-hitter Tatum Massengale brought in the game-winning run with her single giving Baldwin time to make her way around third and to home plate to give the team an 8-7 lead. Reinhardt was not able to score a run in the bottom of the seventh, giving the Lady Bulldogs the 8-7 win in game one. This was Reinhardt's first loss in conference play.

Baldwin and Phillips led the offense with two RBIs. Phillips was credited with the pitching win.

Game Two:

The second game of the doubleheader was a much different game than the first. Unlike the first game which saw 15 runs scored between the two teams, the second game only saw one run come across home plate.

The pitchers' duel saw one team score in the fifth inning. Unfortunately, the run was scored by Reinhardt. TWU was unable to turn two base runners in the seventh inning into the game-tying or winning run, falling in the second game of the doubleheader 1-0 to split the series.

The schedule keeps the Lady Bulldogs (17-8, 14-4 AAC) on the road for a conference doubleheader against St. Andrews University on Saturday. The first game is set to begin at 12:00 p.m.
