Softball Tripped Up by Bryan

DAYTON, Tenn.- It was a tough day on the softball diamond for the softball team on Friday. The team fell to the Bryan College Lady Lions in both games of the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) doubleheader.

Game One:

Defense was a big factor in the first game. Through the first four and a half innings, neither team scored a run and only four hits were given up between the two teams. Everything changed in the bottom of the fifth though as Bryan scored five runs to take a 5-0 lead.

A comeback did not materialize for TWU as the team scored a run in the top of the seventh, an Avery Hope RBI that saw Katie Willett score.

Bailee Phillips finished with five strikeouts in the circle.

Game Two:

Scoring was a little more spread out in the second game of the doubleheader. Unfortunately, the majority of the runs were scored by the opponents. Bryan scored the first runs of the game, putting the Lady Bulldogs in an immediate hole.

Tennessee Wesleyan got one of the runs back in the second inning. Hope started the inning with a double and after a Kaley Bradley ground out moved her to third, the runner scored on a Hallie DeArman ground out. Bryan scored in the bottom of the second though, making the score 4-1.

In the sixth inning, the Lady Bulldogs added three runs to their score. Phillips started the inning with a walk. Willet, who came in to pinch-run, got to third on singles by Mackenzie Baldwin and Taylor Penning, and scored on Hope's single. An error on Bradley's at-bat allowed Baldwin to score while Penning scored on a Tatum Massengale fielder's choice. The team entered trailing by seven runs though and was not able to score anymore, falling in the second game 8-4.

Isabella Jenkins had four strikeouts in the game.

TWU will be back on the road on Saturday to play a game against No. 6 Georgia Gwinnett College. The game is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
