Softball Upsets No. 6 Georgia Gwinnett on the Road
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga.- Less than a day after a rough time on the softball field, the Lady Bulldogs went on the road and upset the No. 6 Georgia Gwinnett College Lady Grizzlies. Tennessee Wesleyan won the non-conference road game by a 2-1 score. This was the program's first win against Georgia Gwinnett.
The two runs for the team went on the scoreboard in the first inning. Macy Chastain began the game with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch. A ground out by Courtney Sneed allowed Chastain to get closer to scoring on third base. Bailee Phillips made it easy for Chastain to score though, hitting a ball over the left field wall, giving the team the two runs they won with.
The remainder of the game saw the pitching of Isabella Jenkins and the Lady Bulldogs defense behind her hold off the Lady Grizzlies. The opponents did plate a run in the sixth inning but did not pull any closer.
Jenkins finished with four strikeouts in the complete game.
TWU (7-4) returns to their home field for a conference series on Tuesday. The team will host Montreat College in a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m.
