Women's Basketball Drops Contest Against Bryan

DAYTON, Tenn.- The women's basketball team played their first road team of the season on Tuesday. It was a short road trip for the team as they traveled to home of Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) rival, the Bryan College Lady Lions.

Jacelyn Stone knocked down a three-point jumper to make the score 3-2. Bryan went on a 10-0 run to move ahead 12-3. Alexis Bates stopped the scoring drought, cutting the lead in half with a three-pointer making the score 12-6. TWU went into the second quarter trailing 19-10.

Anna Crowder scored the first basket of the second quarter for the Lady Bulldogs, making the score 26-12 in favor of the opponents. Bates and Crowder added two more baskets for the team as they continued to try to come back from the deficit. Jaci Powell and Bates hit back-to-back three-point baskets to make the score 45-24 at halftime. 

Three-point baskets by Mikalee Martin and Stone brought the team to the 30-point thresold in the contest. Mayo's jump shot made the score 51-33. The fight to get back in the game saw points from Crowder, Courtney Farr, and Powell move the score to 61-40 by the end of the third quarter.

Along with points by Stone and Powell, Sierra Bates was able to make a small dent in the deficit in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, making the scoreboard read 67-48. The team got scores from S. Bates and Aubrey Long but it was not enough to complete a comeback as they fell 73-54. 

Crowder and A. Bates both finished with 10 points in the game.

Tennessee Wesleyan (3-2, 2-2 AAC) return to James L. Robb Gymnasium for their next game. The team will host conference opponent Columbia International University on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
