
Women's Basketball Falls in Season Opener
MARIETTA, Ga.- In a closely contested game, Tennessee Wesleyan University put up a commendable performance but ultimately fell short against Life University with a final score of 68-63. TWU displayed resilience throughout the game, with key moments that kept the score tight and showed their potential.
The first quarter started strong for TWU as they quickly established a lead. Jalayah Lindsey opened the scoring with a layup, followed by Jacelyn Stone's consistent drives to the basket, which helped TWU stay ahead early in the game. Stone led the offense, scoring crucial layups and a three-pointer in the third quarter, keeping the pressure on Life University and helping TWU close the gap each time Life tried to pull away.
In the second quarter, TWU found themselves trailing, but an impressive display from the bench kept them in contention. Abbey Barr's free throws and Julia Howard's layup late in the second quarter helped TWU close Life's lead. Defensively, TWU worked hard, with Barr and Lindsey grabbing crucial rebounds to prevent Life from gaining momentum.
The second half saw Tennessee Wesleyan rally. Stone hit a timely three-pointer early in the third, and Lindsey continued to control the paint with offensive rebounds and layups, bringing TWU closer. Despite TWU's efforts, Life managed to maintain a slim lead heading into the final minutes. Stone and Lindsey again made critical plays in the last quarter to close the deficit, with Stone scoring a layup in the last minute to bring TWU within three points.
With time running out, TWU applied a full-court press, forcing several turnovers. Although TWU's comeback attempt was strong, Life University managed to hold on, clinching the win by five points. Despite the outcome, Tennessee Wesleyan's performance showcased their defensive strength, led by Stone's scoring efforts of 26 points.
