
Women's Basketball Fall to Bryan
ATHENS, Tenn.- The women's basketball battled throughout their game against Appalachian Athletic Conference rival on Wednesday but could pull the final score in their favor. The team fell in the game against the Bryan College Lady Lions 60-50 on their home court.
The opening quarter was a rough start for Tennessee Wesleyan, as their offense stumbled and their first eight shot attempts did not fall in the net. They managed only seven points, with all seven coming from Jacelyn Stone. Bryan was able to compile 14 points, leaving the Lady Bulldogs trailing after the first quarter.
TWU rallied impressively in the second quarter, outscoring Bryan 19-14. Courtney Farr, Stone, and Jalaya Lindsey to help the Lady Bulldogs cut into the lead. Along with leveraging defensive stops, Tennessee Wesleyan had clawed back within two points of the lead, trailing 28-26 at halftime.
The game remained a close contest with each team responding to each other's scored baskets. Lindsey had back-to-back scores to move the game score to 35-31 then later found Abbey Barr on an open made three-pointer. Julia Howard made a pair of free throws to make the score 41-36 as the team continued to try and pull closer. The team entered the fourth quarter still trailing though as the third quarter ended with the score 43-39 after Anna Crowder's three-point basket.
Despite their best efforts, the Lady Bulldogs could not sustain their momentum in the final quarter. The opponents opened the fourth quarter on a 10-1 run, putting TWU in a 53-40 hole. The visitors went on to win the game by a final score of 60-50.
Stone led all scorers in the game with 20 points while Lindsey added 13 points.
Up next for the Lady Bulldogs (7-7, 5-5 AAC) is a road trip to the University of Pikeville on Saturday. The game is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
