Women's Basketball Slash CIU

ATHENS, Tenn.- The women's basketball left James L. Robb Gymnasium with an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) win on Monday. TWU defeated the Columbia International University Lady Rams 74-51. 

Tennessee Wesleyan led early on in the game, taking a 9-4 lead off scores by Jalaya Lindsey, Jacelyn Stone, and Courtney Farr. led by Katlynn Chinn's opening layup, setting the tone early. By the end of the quarter, the Lady Bulldogs had doubled their previous score, leading the visitors 18-12.

The teams battled back and forth over the first several minutes of the second quarter. Columbia International went ahead 25-24 with 5:33 remaining in the first half. Points by Abbey Barr, Stone, Anna Crowder, Lindsey, and Powell helped the team score 10 of the next 14 points through the remainder of the half. TWU led 34-29 at the halftime break.

After a Columbia International basket, Crowder scored seven to put the team ahead 41-31. The opponents made another run at the lead before Stone's three-point jumper gave the team an eight-point cushion. A three-point basket and free throw by Crowder helped the team lead 50-40 at the end of the third quarter. 

Abbey Barr opened the fourth quarter with a three-pointer. Tennessee Wesleyan displayed their depth in the fourth quarter as Julia Howard's layup pushed the team ahead 60-41 with 5:44 left.  Jordan McCollough hit a free throw and Aubrey Long scored to give the team their largest lead of 24 points with 1:33 left in the game. The game ended with the team winning by 23 points.

Crowder led all scorers with 21 points while Lindsey added 12 points and Stone had 11 points.

TWU (9-7, 7-5 AAC) will be on the road for their next two games, starting with a game on Wednesday against Reinhardt University. The conference game is set to begin at 5:30 p.m.
