Women's Golf Wins Season-Opening 2022 Point University Invitational

Lanett, Ala.- The women's golf team played their first tournament of the fall season on Saturday and Sunday. The team played in the 2022 Point University Invitational, a two-day tournament at the Point University Golf Club in Lanett, Ala.

Saturday:

After the first round, the Lady Bulldogs held the lead on the team scoreboard. A team score of 320 between the team's top four scorers helped the team take the top spot on the board. The team's lead was not very large though as they only led by one stroke.

On the individual scoreboard, Maisie Hassall shot a 74 on the par 71 course to hold sole possession of first place. Cora Mount was tied for fourth after shooting an 80 in the first round while Ann Sofie Madsen gave the team three players in the top ten as she sat in a tie for ninth place with a score of 82.

Morgan Satterfield shot an 84 in the first round to be tied for 14th place. A score of 85 placed Bevin Harrill in a tie for 17th on the player scoreboard. Playing as an individual in the tournament, Olivia Sargla finished tied for 24th in the first round, shooting an 88 through 18 holes.

Sunday:

Hassall went coast-to-coast with her lead, shooting a 75 in the second round to finish with a total of 149 for first place in the tournament. Mount moved up to a tie for third place after shooting a 78 in the second round for a total of 158. Madsen also moved up the leaderboard, finishing tied for sixth with a total score of 162 after shooting 80 on the second day.

Satterfield (83) and Harrill (82) both finished with a total score of 167 strokes, leaving them tied for 12th place. Sargla remained in 24th place on the scoreboard after the second round, shooting a 87 for a total of 175.

Erasing a few strokes helped TWU finish with a 315 in the second round, making their total for the tournament 635, the lowest score of the eight teams in the field. The team won the tournament by 22 strokes.

Up next for the Lady Bulldogs is the TWU Fall Invitational on Sept. 17-18. The tournament will be played at The Links at Kahite in Vonore, Tenn.
