ATHENS, Tenn.- It was a tough day on the lacrosse field at the TWU Athletic Complex for the women's lacrosse team on Wednesday. The team fell 24-6 to the Shorter University Lady Hawks, an opponent from NCAA Division II.
Kate Buchanan got the team on the board 1:34 into the game. Unfortunately, the team was not able to carry the momentum as Shorter scored the next five goals. Buchanan scored again to break the scoring run but Shorter ended up scoring the last three goals of the quarter, putting the team in an 8-2 hole.
Olivia Downey scored twice for the team in the second quarter, the second goal coming with 10:41 left until halftime. Kylie Heinrich scored on a free-position shot but the Lady Bulldogs went into halftime trailing 13-5.
TWU was not able to find a rhythm in the third quarter as they were held scoreless throughout. Buchanan recorded the final goal of the game for the team, giving her three goals in the game.
The team goes to Missouri for their next two games, beginning with a game against Culver-Stockton College on Monday. The game is set to begin at 5:00 p.m. ET.
