Eight Straight Goals Propel Women's Lacrosse Past Madonna

ATHENS, Tenn.- The women's lacrosse team scored the first eight goals on their way to a 14-8 victory on Saturday. The win came against the Madonna University Crusaders. The team played man-down the entire game.

All eight of the goals came in the first quarter for the Lady Bulldogs. Olivia Downey scored the first two goals and was followed by a score from Kate Buchanan. Kylie Heinrich joined the scoring action to give the team a 4-0 lead. Buchanan scored the next three goals and Downey's third goal of the game ended the 8-0 run. TWU went into the second quarter leading 9-1 after a Jozlyn Long goal at the end of the quarter.

Long made it two in a row as she opened the second quarter with a goal. Buchanan scored two goals back-to-back and the Lady Bulldogs went into the halftime break with a commanding 12-2 lead.

In the third quarter, both teams scored two goals. Tennessee Wesleyan scored the first two goals out of the halftime break as Buchanan and Long both scored, getting the team to 14 goals. Madonna ended the quarter with two goals.

The opponents scored four goals in the fourth quarter. It was not enough to come back to take the lead though as the defense and Rylee Brendlinger clamped down to keep them from pulling closer in the 14-8 victory.

Buchanan finished with a career-high seven goals. Long and Downey each scored three goals. Brendlinger finished with 11 saves.

Up next for the Lady Bulldogs is their first conference game of the season on Wednesday. The team goes on the road to face No. 2 University of the Cumberlands at 5:00 p.m.
