Athens, Tenn.- The women's soccer completed their second Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) game of the season on Wednesday. The team hosted the No. 24 ranked team in the NAIA, the Reinhardt University Lady Eagles.
The offense was flowing early for both teams. Tennessee Wesleyan forced a corner kick early in the game, and then saw shots by Lauryn Martel, Krista Eik Hardardottir, and York. Reinhardt also forced corner kicks and shots, but all were defended by the defense and Laia Roch Font. In the 21st minute though, the game changed. Reinhardt was able to get on the board to take a one-goal advantage. The opponents held their lead as shots by Cristina Escrig and Jordan Smith did not get in the net, giving the Lady Eagles a 1-0 lead at the halftime break.
The deficit grew deeper for the Lady Bulldogs as Reinhardt scored four minutes into the second half to pull ahead 2-0. The team was not able to find the lead-cutting goal before the visitors scored their third goal of the contest in the 63rd minute, moving their lead to 3-0. TWU was unable to find the goals necessary to tie or win the contest, going on to fall 3-0 to the opponents.
Hardardottir led the team with five shots in the game while Font had six saves in the net for the Lady Bulldogs.
Tennessee Wesleyan (2-3, 1-1 AAC) will be on the road for their three games. The first of the three road games comes on Saturday when the team faces St. Andrews University in Laurinburg, N.C. Kick-off is set for 2:30 p.m.
