Women's Soccer Wins Fourth Straight Game

Athens, Tenn.- A high-scoring soccer match took place on Saturday. Between the women's soccer team and their guests, the Montreat College Lady Cavaliers, the teams combined to score seven goals in their Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) meeting.

Three of the seven goals were scored in the first half. All three counted toward the Lady Bulldogs' score. The first goal for TWU was scored by Krista Eik Hardardottir on a Cristina Escrig assist to push the team ahead 1-0. Over the next 29 minutes, the game was scoreless. In the 41st minute, Claudia Lopez del Pino scored the first goal of her career off a Daantje Klomp assist. Three minutes later, Lauryn Martel connected with a goal, connecting with a pass from Tessa Lewis to give the Lady Bulldogs a 3-0 lead at the intermission.

Montreat began the scoring in the second half, reducing the Tennessee Wesleyan lead to two goals in the 52nd minute. The two-goal advantage did not last for long as Hardardottir put the team back up by three with her Pino-assisted goal in the 54th minute. Montreat added another goal in the 76th minute but it was not enough to stop the Lady Bulldogs, who saw Hardardottir score a third goal with 34 seconds remaining to complete a hat trick, her second consecutive game with a hat trick.

Up next for TWU (6-3, 5-1 AAC) is a road trip to Knoxville for a conference contest against Johnson University. Kickoff on Wednesday is set for 5:00 p.m.
