Women's Soccer Score Eight Times in Win Against Johnson

ATHENS, Tenn.- A barrage of goals helped the women's soccer team defeat the visiting Johnson University 8-0 on Wednesday. The two teams met in an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) contest at the TWU Athletic Complex, the team's first home conference game of the season.

Within the first ten minutes of the game, the Lady Bulldogs scored three goals. The first goal came 2:24 into the game when Lauryn Smith passed to an open Jordan Smith who, from a few feet out from the 18-yard box, sent a ball flying to the right side of the net to give the team a 1-0 advantage. The second goal occurred at the 9:21 mark when Jamie York forced a turnover and slid a ball to Krista Eik Hardardottir, making the score 2-0 when Hardardottir scored. Twenty seconds later, Hardardottir scored again, this time off a Valerie Koopman assist. Two minutes later, Maggie Aird got in on the scoring, using an assist by Koopman to make the score 4-0. Hardardottir completed the hat trick 25 minutes into the game, scoring her third goal of the game off a Smith and York assist. The team went into the halftime intermission with their five-goal advantage.

The sixth goal of the game was scored by Jemma White in the 60th minute off a pass from Lauryn Martel. White recorded an assist four minutes later when Alexandra Machado's soaring shot was out of the reach of the opposing keeper, moving the lead to 7-0. A foul in the box by Johnson gave Tennessee Wesleyan the final goal of the game. Cristina Escrig converted the ensuing penalty kick, moving the lead to 8-0, the score the team went on to win by.

Laia Roch Font got the win in the net.

The schedule takes the Lady Bulldogs (3-0-1, 2-0 AAC) on the road for their next game on Saturday. The team travels to face No. 22 Truett McConnell University in an AAC contest.
