GRAYSON, Ky.- The women's soccer team finished the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) game against Kentucky Christian University with a football-like score on Wednesday. The team won the conference road game by a score of 21-0.
Thirteen of the goals occurred in the first half. Alexandra Machado had the first two goals of the contest to make the score 2-0 early on. Addison Smith, Anna-Lena Strauss, and Krista Eik Hardardottir scored the next three goals over a two-minute span to move the lead to 5-0. Valerie Koopman, Marte Stokseth, and Annabel Cuthbert scored the next three goals of the game to move the lead to 8-0. Cristina Escrig scored two consecutive goals before Cuthbert recorded her second and third goals of the game for a hat trick with a goal by Lauryn Martel sandwiched between, giving the team the 13-0 advantage at the halftime break.
In a seven-minute span in the second half, TWU added four more goals. Strauss scored two of them to notch a hat trick while Smith and Koopman added the other two to move the lead to 17-0. Machado completed a hat trick in the 62nd minute with the 18th goal of the game while Cuthbert scored back-to-back for five total goals in the game and a 20 lead in the game. Escrig became the third player to complete a hat trick with the final goal of the contest, giving the team the 21 goals they scored in the contest.
This is the most goals scored by the team in a single game and the largest margin of victory on record in program history.
Up next for the Lady Bulldogs (4-1-1, 3-1 AAC) is a home contest against Bluefield University on Saturday. The conference game is set to begin at 2:30 p.m.
