Women's Soccer Slashes Bryan

ATHENS, Tenn.- The women's soccer team played their second of two straight home games on Tuesday. The team hosted the Bryan College Lady Lions, an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) rival.

Tennessee Wesleyan took control of the contest from the onset. The team forced four consecutive corner kicks. The pressure broke the Lady Lions' defense down as Marte Stokseth scored a goal at the 5:20 mark of the first half. The offense continued to possess the ball, with multiple corner kicks turning into shots by Cristina Escrig, Lauryn Smith, Valerie Koopman, Lauryn Martel, Krista Eik Hardardottir, and Madisen Hodges. Alexandra Machado gave the team a 2-0 advantage at the 35:39 mark, scoring off a Hardardottir assist.

The two-goal advantage at halftime turned into a three-goal lead two minutes into the second half. Hardardottir got in on the scoring, connecting a pass from Anna-Lena Strauss into a goal to make the score 3-0. Three minutes later, Machado recorded her second goal of the contest, this time off a Martel pass to move the lead to 4-0. Strauss put the final goal of the contest on the board in the 63rd minute, helping the Lady Bulldogs defeat Bryan 5-0. This was the team's third straight AAC shutout.

The team outshot the opponents 22-1 in the game and forced 11 corner kicks. Laia Roch Font and Livia Zimmerman split time in the net.

Up next for TWU (6-1-1, 5-1 AAC) will hit the road for South Carolina for their next conference game. The team will travel to face Columbia College on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
