ATHENS, Tenn.- The women's soccer team returned to the field at the TWU Athletic Complex for an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) on Wednesday. The team hosted Brenau University Golden Tigers as they attempted to move their win streak to five in a row.
After two shots by Anna-Lena Strauss and Cristina Escrig, the Lady Bulldogs got on the board. On a corner kick played short by Addison Smith to Escrig, Lauryn Smith took the cross in the box by Escrig and turned it into the first goal of the game in the sixth minute. The lead moved to two goals when Krista Eik Hardardottir scored off Strauss' assist. Before the end of the half, Alexandra Machado moved the team's advantage up a goal with her score in the 36th minute.
Tennessee Wesleyan scored just one minute into the second half. Similar to the first goal of the game, A. Smith took a corner kick, this time sending it into the box where L. Smith connected with it for her second goal of the contest, moving the lead to 4-0. Lauryn Martel made the score 5-0 when she snuck Escrig's pass past the opposing keeper. The team was not done scoring. Alayna Richardson added a goal to the team's score off an L. Smith corner kick. An own goal by Brenau made the score 7-0. Machado tallied a second goal off a Marte Stokseth assist and Hardardottir became the third player in the game to complete a brace to make the final score 9-0.
L. Smith, Machado, and Hardardottir all finished with two goals. Laia Roch Font and Livia Zimmerman split time in the net. TWU outshot their opponents 37-1.
The road calls the Lady Bulldogs (8-1-1, 7-1 AAC) for their next game as they travel back to South Carolina for a conference contest. The team will face Columbia International on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
