Women's Soccer Wins Sixth Consecutive Game in Shutout Fashion

COLUMBIA, S.C.- The women's soccer team found themselves in a nailbiter on Saturday. The team faced the Columbia International University Lady Rams in an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) game that ended with a 1-0 score in favor of Tennessee Wesleyan.

Even though the team outshot their opponents 17-2 in the game, it was not until the 40th minute a goal went into the net. The team saw shots from Anna-Lena Strauss, Krista Eik Hardardottir, Alexandra Machado, and Addison Smith before scoring their lone goal in the game. Cristina Escrig was able to rouse a ball away from a defender and passed it ahead to Annabel Cuthbert, who took the pass and put it into the net for the team's 1-0 advantage.

Though the team did not add to their advantage in the second half through shots by Hardardottir, Machado, Smith, and Cuthbert, the defense held their ground. Columbia International had a shot and a corner kick in the second half but neither produced a goal as the Lady Bulldogs held on to their one-goal lead for the remaining 45 minutes in the second half.

This was the team's sixth consecutive shutout win.

TWU (9-1-1, 8-1 AAC) comes off the road for a home contest on Wednesday against the University of Pikeville. The team will face the newcomers to the conference at 3:30 p.m.
