Women's Soccer Moves on to AAC Title Game

ATHENS, Tenn.- The women's soccer team returned to the field at the TWU Athletic Complex on Tuesday. The team hosted the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Women's Soccer Championship Tournament Semifinals as the No. 2 seed. Trying to keep the Lady Bulldogs out of the championship game was the No. 3 seeded Reinhardt University Lady Eagles. 

Tennessee Wesleyan took control of possession early. That control turned into a corner kick by Addison Smith and shots by Krista Eik Hardardottir, Anna-Lena Strauss, and Alexandra Machado. The pressure built from the offensive attack paid off for the Lady Bulldogs as they scored in the 29th minute. Hardardottir scored the first goal of the game on an Machado and Marte Stokseth assist. The 1-0 score remained through the remainder of halftime. 

Unlike the first half, a goal came much quicker in the second half. Five minutes in, Strauss scored off a Maggie Aird assist to give the team a 2-0 advantage. The lead grew for TWU in the 63rd minute. Hardardottir scored for the second time in the game, this time off a Valerie Koopman assist to give the team a second insurance goal. The final whstle blew with the Lady Bulldogs still leading 3-0, sending the team to the AAC Championship game. 

Tennessee Wesleyan (16-1-1) will play for the AAC Tournament Title for the first time since the 2019 season. The game will take place on Saturday at the No. 1 seed in the tournament, Truett McConnell University, on Friday. Kick off is set for 6:00 p.m.
