Women's Soccer Falls in AAC Championship Game

CLEVELAND, Ga.- The top two seeds in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Women's Soccer Championship Tournament met in the final game on Friday. The women's soccer team was the No. 2 seed and they faced the No. 1 seed, the Truett McConnell University Lady Bears.

Krista Eik Hardardottir and Valerie Koopman tried to give the team an early lead but their shots went wide of the goal. Saves by Laia Roch Font kept the game in a scoreless tie. The score changed in the 20th minute though. The goal went towards the score of the opponents, putting the Lady Bulldogs in a 1-0 hole, which remained until halftime.

The second half saw Hardardottir take another shot to equalize the score that sailed wide. Natascha Frei saw her shot be saved by the opposing keeper a few minutes later. The team took one more shot in trying to find an equalizer, a shot by Hardardottir that was stopped by the opponents at the last instance as Truett McConnell won the game by a 1-0 score.

As a part of the making this game, TWU (16-2-1) earned the AAC's second automatic bid to the 2023 NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship Tournament. The team will find its opening round location on Monday with the first game set to be played on Thursday.
