ATHENS, Tenn.- The women's soccer team exploded for 14 goals in a shutout win on Wednesday. The explosion came in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) game against the Kentucky Christian University Lady Knights.
Tennessee Wesleyan set the tone early in the match, scoring four goals in the first half. Krista Eik Hardardottir opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a goal assisted by Addison Smith. Hardardottir quickly followed up with another goal in the 14th minute, this time unassisted. Alexandra Machado added to the scoreline with two goals of her own, one in the 20th minute assisted by Jenna Gibson, and another unassisted in the 39th minute.
The offensive onslaught continued in the second half, with Tennessee Wesleyan netting ten more goals. Lisa Kirwan started the second half scoring in the 49th minute with an assist from Hardardottir. Goals by Natascha Frei, Hardardottir again, Marte Stokseth, and Addison Smith followed in quick succession. Frei, notably, completed a hat trick with two more goals in the 60th and 70th minutes. Laura Nünning, Rosie Dunkerton, and Valerie Koopman also found the back of the net, capping off a thoroughly commanding performance by Tennessee Wesleyan.
The win moved the team's record to 2-1-2 overall and 2-0-2 in the AAC.
