No. 2 Seed Women's Soccer Falls in PKs in AAC Championship

CLEVELAND, Ga.- The top two seeds in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Tournament clashed for the championship on Saturday. The Co-AAC Regular Season Champions and No. 2 seeded TWU faced the team they shared the regular season title with, the No. 1 seed Truett McConnell University Lady Bears.

A free kick helped the Lady Bulldogs get on the board first. Krista Eik Hardardottir converted the free kick into a goal in the 19th minute of action. Tennessee Wesleyan did not go into the halftime break with the lead though as Truett McConnell tied the score in the 39th minute.

Each team took four shots in the second half, but none found the net. With the score still tied 1-1 after the end of the regulation, the game moved on to overtime to determine a winner. In the two, golden goal overtime periods, defense prevailed again as neither team found the game-winning shot. The next move in the game saw penalty kicks.

Unforunately for the Lady Bulldogs, Truett McConell went on to win the penalty kicks 5-4 to win the championship.

The runner-up finish in the tournament guarantees TWU (14-1-3) a bid to the 2024 NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship Tournament. The team will learn their opening round site and opponent on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 2:00 p.m.
