ATHENS, Tenn.- The women's soccer team scored three consecutive goals to leave with a 3-1 win on Wednesday. TWU outscored the University of Pikeville Lady Bears in an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) game.
Pikeville took the first lead of the game, scoring their lone goal in the fifth minute. Addison Smith and Jenna Vest gave the team the lead by halftime. Smith collected her goal in the 24th minute, tying the score 1-1. Shortly before halftime, Vest put the team ahead 2-1 with three minutes until the break, scoring on a putback off her own shot.
As the search for the next score commenced in the form of 11 shots for the Lady Bulldogs, the team did not score their final goal until the 73rd minute. The insurance goal came on a successful penalty kick by Stina Braun, giving the team the three goals as they got back in the win column.
Ana Martinez had five saves in the net.
Tennessee Wesleyan (7-2, 6-2 AAC) plays again on Saturday on the road against Montreat College. The game is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
