Women's Soccer Shutout Montreat

BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C.- The women's soccer team improved their record to 8-2 overall and 7-2 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) on Saturday. The team used a 3-0 win against the Montreat College Lady Cavaliers to improve their record. 

Defense was the name of the game in the first half as neither team scored. Tennessee Wesleyan saw shots by Marta Hernan, Addison Smith, Julia Starchl, Stina Braun, Iara Tello, Jenna Vest, and Kyndal Stafford miss the mark as they tried to break a scoreless tie before halftime. 

The first of three goals for the Lady Bulldogs in the second half occurred ten minutes in. Vest scored in the 55th minute, giving the team a 1-0 advantage. Off assists by Starchl and Stafford, Smith added to the lead in the 77th minute. Lisa Kirwan ended the scoring for TWU, taking a connection of passes from Estefania Garro and Smith and turning them into a goal in the 83rd minute. 

Ana Martinez had three saves in the shutout win.

TWU will be back in action on their home field on Wednesday against Union Commonwealth University at 1:00 p.m.
